Over the years, I have watched only a few snippets of various episodes of the famous television series 'Happy Days' in which Winkler was the important character of The Fonz。 However, Winkler's honest and often self-deprecating humor made me interested in his description of reading for the part for Fonzarelli。 Amazingly, Mr。 Winkler is even honest about his abysmal report card。 Just as I was thinking that book pages crinkled from his sprinkling of water weren't going to impress a teacher, the next paragraph admits to report cards of D's and F's。 It is unfortunate that his parents had an insulting nickname for what seemed to be lack of intelligence and that Mr。 Winkler grew up in an era when dyslexia wasn't on the radar。 Despite going undiagnosed, Henry Winkler - as we all obviously know- became successful。 Most importantly, he has the reputation for being a nice person。 I think this memoir has the proverbial "something for everyone" in it; there is a short section with memories of meeting Robin Williams, insights into his personal life, and a discussion of aging in Hollywood。 He comes across as a genuinely good guy ! 。。。more

I grew up watching Happy Days on Nick at Nite, so I was excited to read all about The Fonz。 I appreciate how candid his story was as he shared his Jewish roots, his challenging relationship with his parents, a late dyslexia diagnosis, and being emotionally unavailable to his family at times。While he got his start playing the cool guy on screen, off camera Henry is extremely insecure and anxious。 He shares how he wanted to get out of the shadows of The Fonz and how he questioned his abilities whe I grew up watching Happy Days on Nick at Nite, so I was excited to read all about The Fonz。 I appreciate how candid his story was as he shared his Jewish roots, his challenging relationship with his parents, a late dyslexia diagnosis, and being emotionally unavailable to his family at times。While he got his start playing the cool guy on screen, off camera Henry is extremely insecure and anxious。 He shares how he wanted to get out of the shadows of The Fonz and how he questioned his abilities when the phone didn’t ring for new opportunities。 If you’re a fan of the tv/movie industry, he drops a lot of names along the way (I loved hearing about his relationship with Adam Sandler)。I really enjoyed learning more about his life overall, and especially loved the passages where his wife chimed in with her commentary。 Thank you Celadon Books for my complimentary copy。 。。。more

Such a wholesome celebrity memoir。 Even when Henry was throwing shade at some Hollywood names, it was still done in an almost sweet way。 I really enjoyed learning more about Henry Winkler, his background and his work in therapy to really process the pain of his childhood and family relationships。 Thanks to Celadon for this #gifted copy。 My thoughts are my own。

Fast paced read。 He’s vulnerable, and it’s heartbreaking the influence of poor parenting has on a child who grows into an adult。 Henry is very honest in his disability of dyslexia and the shame that came with that-having started with his parents in a very harsh and prolonged way。 It’s clear the shame moved with him throughout his life。 Thankful for how therapy has helped him, and thankful for how he was able to parent his own kids differently-and through their struggles with dyslexia as well。

For me, the listening pleasure of an audiobook is never greater than with a celebrity-narrated memoir -- and never moreso than with the life story of a truly decent and goodhearted human being whose success only changed him for the better。 As a child of the 70s, I grew up with HAPPY DAYS, and hearing about the camaraderie of the cast was such a balm during these difficult times, as were Winkler's wonderfully candid and loving memories of his marriage (often hilariously interspersed with recollec For me, the listening pleasure of an audiobook is never greater than with a celebrity-narrated memoir -- and never moreso than with the life story of a truly decent and goodhearted human being whose success only changed him for the better。 As a child of the 70s, I grew up with HAPPY DAYS, and hearing about the camaraderie of the cast was such a balm during these difficult times, as were Winkler's wonderfully candid and loving memories of his marriage (often hilariously interspersed with recollections by his wife of many decades!)。 And I so appreciated the raw emotion with which Winkler discussed his childhood and youth in a family haunted by war and survival。 But perhaps most significant was Winkler's story of growing up with undiagnosed dyslexia, his perseverance in the face of it, and the many lessons and inspirations he continues to offer through his talents and talks to people all over the world。 So insightful, so engaging, and not to be missed。 。。。more

I grew up watching the sitcom Happy Days when I was a child。 I’d come home every day after school and turn on the set to watch my favourite show and admire my secret crush The Fonz! So when @celadonbooks reached out to me to ask if I would like to read an advance copy of Being Henry: The Fonz…and Beyond, I whooped with delight。 What a phenomenally written memoir by Henry Winkler。 Henry was so open and honest about his struggles and insecurities, which made him even more lovable as a human。 I hav I grew up watching the sitcom Happy Days when I was a child。 I’d come home every day after school and turn on the set to watch my favourite show and admire my secret crush The Fonz! So when @celadonbooks reached out to me to ask if I would like to read an advance copy of Being Henry: The Fonz…and Beyond, I whooped with delight。 What a phenomenally written memoir by Henry Winkler。 Henry was so open and honest about his struggles and insecurities, which made him even more lovable as a human。 I have to say I was surprised to learn that Henry grew up with a lack of confidence and a learning disability。 I was saddened to learn how his parents mistreated him and often referred to him as “dumb dog” in German。 Henry’s parents punished him for not doing well at school and were always ashamed of Henry。 But despite these adversities and his struggles, Henry pursued his dream of becoming an actor。 Henry attended Emerson College and Yale School of drama。 For a while Henry was involved in theatre but eventually moved to LA to see if this could jump start his acting career。 Auditions and learning his lines were difficult for Henry as it turns out he has sever dyslexia, which was not diagnosed until his 30’s。 But Henry didn’t let that stop him。 He would often adlib his lines and make it work。 At the age of 28 Henry landed the role of The Fonz on Happy Days and over night became a handsome heart throb and celebrity。 Henry found this difficult as he grew up so insecure and didn’t like all the attention and for a while didn’t go out。 It took a while for Henry to adapt to stardom but he never let it get it his head。 He was so humble and kind and really cared about his cast mates。 He finally felt a sense of family and belonging, which he lacked from his biological family。 If you look behind the persona of The Fonz and see the real Henry Winkler you will find a compassionate, caring, humble, genuine and grateful human being。 He is not just an actor, he is a philanthropist, an author of children’s books, a husband a father and grandfather。 Who new the Fonz had so many layers to him! Thank you @celadonbooks for my advanced readers copy。 Pub Date: October 31, 2023 。。。more

I didn't think I could love Henry Winkler any more than I already did。 I was wrong。 This memoir encapsulates everything I always believed about him and adds so many more layers。 I had the opportunity in the late 2000's to interview him briefly and he struck me as real and unpretentious, as if he wanted to make MY day better。 Remembering the authenticity in his voice, I was excited to receive an ARC of his audiobook。 Narrated by the man himself, with segments from his wife, Winkler shares stories I didn't think I could love Henry Winkler any more than I already did。 I was wrong。 This memoir encapsulates everything I always believed about him and adds so many more layers。 I had the opportunity in the late 2000's to interview him briefly and he struck me as real and unpretentious, as if he wanted to make MY day better。 Remembering the authenticity in his voice, I was excited to receive an ARC of his audiobook。 Narrated by the man himself, with segments from his wife, Winkler shares stories from his childhood and how they shaped him into an actor, a person & an author。 He provides a behind the scenes look at Hollywood, the theater and life with dyslexia。 I don't want to spoil anything, but I can assure you this book reveals new things that will leave you saying, "Wow!"
